How to change a generic walking action into more of a marching action with just one pose change.
If you know how to do a 'generic walk' you’ll know that the passing position of the free leg looks something like a number ‘4’ when seen from the side. However, if you move that passing position knee on the free leg to a higher position in front of the body and straighten the arms out somewhat, you get the general effect of your character marching.

And if you want the legs to have a John Cleese/'Institute of Silly Walks' feel to it ~ you just keep the leg straight and point the toes between the new high-knee passing position and the contact position on the ground...
Of course you need to do a lot of subtle polishing of the action to get a truly authentic marching (or John Cleese) action. However, this simple tip for starters should get you there a lot quicker!
